"The Survivalist may be the best post-apocalyptic series out there," raves Steve Erwood of the Disaster Preparedness Blog. "In addition to a steady stream of gunfights with zombie-like mutants, roadway bandits, and opportunistic warlords, the books teach dozens of useful survival tricks. Learn to hotwire cars, construct homemade booby traps, build garbage-powered generators, and retrieve fuel from abandoned gas pumps."
Bryan Foster, author of The Prepper's Handbook, says "It's rare to find books this entertaining that are so well researched." Nicholas Sansbury Smith, author of Extinction Horizon, adds "The Survivalist books are incredibly addictive. They create a cool western vibe not seen since Louis L'Amour's timeless classics."
Madness Rules is the fourth book in a series described as "a cross between Justified and The Walking Dead." Few heroes remain in the apocalyptic wasteland of the United States. Deputy Marshal Mason Raines is one such hero. Still reeling from the death of his beloved, he is recruited to confront a band of ruthless lawmen. Only as bodies begin to pile up, does he question whether his latest mission was less about justice and more about revenge.
Meanwhile, Tanner and Samantha travel south toward Mount Weather for a long overdue reunion. When Samantha falls ill, Tanner is forced to compete in a brutal fight club to secure medical care. After discovering her mother's fate, Samantha insists on a risky detour to the nation's capital. If they are to have any chance of making it out alive, they must delve into the bowels the city to discover a closely guarded secret.
After the attack on President Rosalyn Glass, Lincoln Pike finally seizes the reins of power. With hopes of returning the country to greatness, he initiates sweeping measures to rebuild colonies, establish a gold-backed currency, and gain complete control of the military. Little do others realize that his inability to cope with a devastating loss has started him down a treacherous path toward madness.

Madness Rules The Survivalist Book 4 eBook Arthur Bradley
I quickly became hooked on this series of plausible post-apocalyptic novels after reading the first in the series, Frontier Justice. Dr. Bradley has written an insightful series that provides valuable information for life in general as well as being prepared for a crisis. Having served 30 years as a field artilleryman with 13 years overseas including a combat tour in Vietnam, I could relate to the observations and experiences of Deputy Mason Raines who is a true American hero. In fact, I thoroughly enjoy how well Dr. Bradley has developed each of the main and side characters. The author is extremely knowledgeable about weapons and equipment. In this novel, Dr. Bradley begins with a foreword on “madness.” He lists a number of world leaders whom he writes “might be eligible for membership in this less than prestigious club of lunatics.” I would submit that another possible explanation for their behavior could be attributed to demonic influence.
I remain troubled that no coherent explanation has been given as to why the prisoners who had been released had not been infected. I was a bit surprised that Tanner would release “Nipples” for a quickie when Samantha was around. The author deserves kudos for including the memorable quote “Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori” when Tanner and Samantha reached the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The description of what Mason stuffed into his backpack is sage advice for us all. Paracord, duct tape, and a multi-tool are among mankind’s great inventions. The entire list should serve as a model for survival necessities.
The author presents a much higher degree of coherent governmental organization than could possibly have survived the plague, for example, the use of a nuclear weapon.
I highly recommend this action-packed series to the general public as well as those interested in post-apocalyptic and prepper novels.

Madness Rules The Survivalist Book 4 eBook Arthur Bradley Reviews
Well, I've finished book 4 in THE SURVIVALIST series (MADNESS RULES) and each book has captured and held my interest more than the last. I've rated each book with 5 stars and it's very rarely that I find an entire series that I'm able to rank so highly.
I've come to know the characters more and more with each book and wish I knew them in real life. Tanner and young Sam banter back and forth and are daily growing fonder of each other. Mason is a man of integrity and honor, trying to find answers as to why so many of his fellow U.S. Marshals were killed in Georgia. And that big galumphing dog Bowie - love him.
I've read
Book 1 - Frontier Justice (The Survivalist)
Book 2 - Anarchy Rising (The Survivalist)
Book 3 - Judgment Day (The Survivalist)
The cover art on each book continues to be exceptional and the inner illustrations are detailed and relevant.
Even though Mason and Tanner keep getting caught up in outlandish and or dangerous actions (maniacal clowns anyone), the stories are engrossing and don't seem so unbelievable when in the middle of the story.
I'm now getting ready to start Book 5 - Battle Lines (The Survivalist). I just wish the final book was completed and available - Book 6 - FINEST HOUR (THE SURVIVALIST). I don't handle waiting too well and it's not due out until May 2015.
Book 4 in the series and the post-apocalyptic brutality is getting to all. Our hero, Mason Raines, has turned into a cold-blooded killer (though, to be fair, most of those he kills had it coming. He even condones (or at least lets slide, cold-blooded murder by his sidekicks. in the second main narrative, his dad has bonded with the 14-year-old daughter of POTUS and they have both hardened. They used to pride themselves about not stealing any food from the living, no they blythely steal the only transport off people they meet, leaving them to be eaten alive by zombies. (About those Zombies, they have in some unexplained way multiplied from a few into the many thousands.)
Meanwhile, in the third main narrative, the vice-president's psychoses, delusions and ability to keep secrets have magnified to a completely unbelievable level. It is so unbelievable, that it has convinced me -along with the feats of derring-do becoming a bit repetitive- not to go on to books 5 to 9. At $5.95 a novella, they have been priced beyond their enjoyment range.
I'm going to write my review for what is my least favorite of the series. MADNESS RULES is still a fast-paced narrative that slowly reveals the continued adventures of the one remaining U. S. Marshall in the country and his father, a former convict. I like the mixing of the chapters, the flow that Art has put into his books. Generally following a pattern of our two heroes in back to back chapters followed by a chapter that shows the lowest levels that politics can slide into in a country filled with violent chaos. Hell, look at America now and the shape of its leaders. These times, while trying, are relatively good and the politicos can't stay on the side of law, order, justice, and providing for all. We can't even begin to imagine the power grabs of a post-apocalyptic America thats filled with many self-centered power-mad "leaders" of the worst kind. I did not find that this book had the same kind of "just can't put it down" grabbing power of the earlier novels. Perhaps, though, that was just me. I have enjoyed them all and will continue to read on to the end. I'm a former California state peace officer and paramedic, combined for 30 years experience. I have 42 years in the martial arts and have taught survival to many students for over 30 years. Art does not show us anything but basic survival skills, which is 95% of what you'd need to know. He wants to entertain and train at the same time and he does it well. While I've only rated this at 3 stars I would rate books one, two, and four and four and one-half stars each. Highly recommended if you have any interest at all in survival (shame on you if you don't), action entertainment, and the related tools of the trade.
