Goblins, humans, and a host of familiar and unique fantasy cultures clash in a world where their conflict is only a stage in a great game as strange as it is surprising. Game On is the first in a series of short stories forming a serial novel written by D.M. Twigg. Each stands as a short story and alongside its companion tales weaves a complex tapestry to be enjoyed in its entirety.
The Great Game Game On eBook DM Twigg
The author weaves a richly-textured narrative that is set in a near future where the entertainment industry is dominated by a novel TV series: one in which the actors are immersed in all-consuming roles in a medieval fantasy world generated by virtual reality. The story centers on one such actor and the psychological strain he endures while inhabiting the role of a Mongol warrior, as well as the trauma and alienation he experiences after returning to the “civilian” world when the production is over. The author achieves an admirable balance between the depiction of violence and the practice of sufficient restraint—focusing at least as much on the thoughts of the protagonist as on the visualization of deadly swordplay.
The reader is given much to consider here, as the world constructed by the author, though strange and somewhat dystopian, is one that we could anticipate experiencing in our own lifetimes.

The Great Game Game On eBook DM Twigg Reviews
Great, imaginative, and compelling read. A fun mix of fantasy and sci-fi. I wanted to keep reading once I got to the end!
If you are looking for a new fantasy book and are bored of the normal fantasy troupes then this is the book for you. I found it to be a cross between Hero's Die, Ready Player One and Normal Fantasy. I would highly recommend it and can't wait for the 3rd book to come out.
The Great Game is a fascinating short story rich in character development, with an unexpected and fascinating plot twist. Twigg is a talented author, gifted in characterization and psychological depth. This story blends fantasy and science fiction in a satisfying synthesis. The Great Game combines actions and reflection, creating a fun, but deep narrative.
This book blends the best of the concepts behind such greats as Tron, Hack.Sign and S.A.O.; combining them with the fanatic fervor seen in modern sports fans and their associated franchises. This unique blend is seasoned with a strong human element as the characters struggle to find meaning in the strange bi-location between their IRL and in Game personae.
I loved this book! D.M. Twigg creates a unique world for his characters that unfolds brilliantly as the story progresses.
The flip between worlds kept my interest and I found myself torn as to whether I preferred Daniel or Ivan.
I also really liked the length, the short story model makes it easy to read in one sitting. I can’t wait for the next book to launch.
